Anybody can create a structure out of wet sand, but a skilled artist can turn an otherwise formless mass of earth into a masterpiece, some even larger than the maker.  It is undeniable that there is a talent for innovation and creativity, as well as a sense of spirituality and philosophy among the many flaws and faults of man.  A sand sculpture is only a small reflection of what man can offer the world.

Sand castles are classic.  Some sand castles have grown with their builders. Meticulous sand sculptors have also built elaborate arches, walls, parapets, towers, drawbridges, and even moats to create a diorama of a real medieval castle.

Particularly creative sand artists like to think out of the box and surprise people.  There are some who create sculptures in the likeness of their favorite cartoon characters or busts of their loved ones.  There are also sand versions of classic marble sculptures.  There are even miniature models of famous architectural structures.

Perhaps some time in the near future a beach goer will see a sand sculpture of carnival cruises, cruise line events designed for fun-loving vacationers who get treated to on-board casinos, shopping and spas, as well as children’s programs for families with little ones.  A sculpture like that will be nearly as elaborate as the most realistic castle interpretation on the shore.  Such a feat will require an eye for detail, steady hands, and great dedication.

Making a sand sculpture of celebrity cruises is a similar feat.  These cruises boast of luxury and comfort, where the guests are treated like celebrities.  Sand sculptors become celebrities themselves.  Creating intricate forms from wet sand is not an easy task, not to mention the added responsibility of making these creations last.

It is man’s capability for art that makes him unique among the creatures of the earth.  Painting, music, literature, and sculpture—people are marked with the power of creation.  The next time you see a child trying to build a sand castle as you return from one of your cruise holidays, it is nice to think that wanting to build a sand castle is already something special in itself.
